The side rolling hatch covers are very often used for the weather decks on dry bulk carriers as OBO Ore/ Bulk/Oil or Ore/Oil ships. There are basically two different designs: one single panel or two panels per hatch. The panels can be stowed transversally, in which case they are known as side rolling covers, or longitudinally. In the case that there are two panels per hatch the panels can be stowed each on opposite side or in exceptional cases together on one side. In each case the covers opened by rolling on rails installed on extended coamings. This kind of side rolling hatch cover is operated by the slideway.
